What is The Radical Middle (DHH)?

The Radical Middle (DHH) is a platform for researchers, practitioners, families, and members of the D/deaf community to communicate and collaborate with others who have a variety of expertise across modalities, educational practices in a way that is understanding and respectful of philosophical perspectives that are different from our own. Participants in TRM have made conscious decision to take the time to understand the other perspectives in our field.

Who are we?

We are a group of professionals from a variety of backgrounds with respect to philosophical ideals in deaf education, however, we are not interested in defending one modality over another.

What are we about?

We are about understanding and respecting different perspectives and ideas in deaf education.

We are about providing unbiased information regarding communication and education, and supporting individual families’  choices for their children.

We are about supporting teachers by highlighting evidence-based practices that help students (regardless of communication preferences) who are DHH, with the understanding that there is not a “one size/one philosophy fits all” solution.
